REGION 6 ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Dear ASHE Region 6 Members:
I certainly wish that circumstances were better than they are, and I hope that you are doing as well as possible given the issues at hand. As uncertain and fundamentally changed as health care is during the pandemic, our profession continues to be called into service to provide skilled guidance and expertise to our organizations. You have worked long days and weekends, and taken calls at all hours to ensure our facilities stand ready to meet whatever challenge comes next. Although you may never get the credit you truly deserve, I hope you can find time to celebrate successes with your teams.
As you may have seen from your chapters, I sent out a quick note on ASHE COVID-19 resources to help with preparedness, recovery, and submitting maintenance and testing waivers to CMS. ASHE staff has done an outstanding job of collaborating with partner organizations like The Joint Commission and the Centers for Disease Control to develop resources for health care facilities to use during the pandemic. Those can be found here:
Having to cancel our ASHE Region 6 Conference and Technical Exhibit was extremely disappointing. The Conference Planning Committee discussed different options, including virtual sessions and web-based learning. Because of work being done in our health care facilities with support from our business partners to prepare for patient surges, we felt it was best to cancel and build an even stronger program for 2021. I would like to recognize the Region 6 Conference Planning Committee for their dedicated efforts in planning our 2020 conference and for making tough but well thought-out decisions. Members include Jim Kent (co-chair), Brian Carlson (co-chair), Chris Patraw, Craig Holmen, Dan Benson, Isaac Larson, Jesse Helland, Kelly Merrick, Mark Doll, Mark Keller, Rich Larson, Mark Thuringer, Kayla Gonzalez (CMP) and Carolyn Price (CMP).
I would also like to welcome the 41 new Region 6 members who have joined ASHE since March 2020.
At the most recent virtual Board meeting on April 24, we continued working on a decision regarding the 2020 ASHE Annual Conference and Technical Exhibition. Several options are being discussed and an update should be coming out within the next few weeks. If you are looking for continuing education credits to support your CHFM or CHC certification, there are many options for online learning. You can also earn credits by reading Health Facilities Management magazine and then taking the online quiz. As a reminder, if you are considering taking the CHFM or CHC exam, please let me know if you would like to take advantage of a waiver that takes care of the cost of the exam. I would like to recognize Region 6 member and ASHE Immediate Past President, Dean Pufahl, for his leadership and guidance over the past year. Dean is a tireless worker and an advocate for all members. His tenacity has been inspiring to witness and I hope you will all join me thanking him when we next see him. Thank you, Dean!
In closing, I would like to wish you all good health and a speedy end to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have not yet seen the message from current ASHE President, Jeff Henne, I would encourage you to take a look at his short video. His words and actions reflect ASHE’s core values and remind us that we are not alone in this fight.
