FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 25, 2023

CHICAGO — The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) and its fellow supporting organizations have opened registration for the 2024 International Summit & Exhibition for Health Care Planning, Design & Construction (PDC Summit). The 2024 PDC Summit will take place March 17-20 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

For more than 30 years, the PDC Summit has brought together thousands of health care planning, design and construction professionals to learn, network and share solutions with the goal of promoting safe healing environments. The conference welcomes individuals at every stage of their careers across a broad spectrum of professions, including design professionals, health care facilities managers, construction professionals, hospital administrators and care providers.

Keynote session speakers include best-selling author Shola Richards, who poses three questions to guide attendees toward their most meaningful work, and health care futurist Dr. Daniel Kraft, whose presentation explores the potential applications of virtual, extended and augmented reality in health care. Other notable sessions center on inclusive design and integrating disabled voices in the design process, a case study on California hospitals pioneering the use of health care microgrids, and a preview of the Facility Guidelines Institute’s draft 2026 Guidelines for Design and Construction documents.

The content of the 2024 PDC Summit aligns with seven topics: Behavioral Health, Clinical Perspectives, Collaborative PDC Methodologies, Safety and Resiliency, Site of Care, Sustainability and Decarbonization, and Regulation and Compliance. These topics are explored across a variety of session formats including keynotes, lecture-style and debate-style sessions, as well as peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing forums. Several interactive sessions, such as certification exam review programs and an in-person facility tour, are also offered as add-on events. In addition to staying informed about new developments in the field, attendees can earn continuing education credits toward Certified Health Care Constructor and other industry-standard certifications.

The PDC Summit is a hub for technological innovation in the health care design and construction field, anchored by an exhibition featuring hands-on demonstrations from cutting-edge solutions providers. Leading organizations dedicated to advancing the health care physical environment join ASHE as supporting organizations for this year’s event, including the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA); Academy of Architecture for Health, a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architecture (AAH AIA); Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN); Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC); ASHRAE; Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI); International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS); and Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD).
